Indonesia and The UK Launch Economic Growth Partnership

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian and British governments officially launched an economic growth partnership in London, England, on Monday, 19 January 2026. The partnership aims at enhancing bilateral economic cooperation across various strategic sectors.
The agreement was signed by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, representing the Indonesian government, and the UK's Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Peter Kyle. The signing took place during President Prabowo Subianto's visit to the UK.
The British Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, who attended at the launch, called this partnership a historic milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries.
This historic agreement takes UK-Indonesia trade relations to a higher level. "This agreement covers the strengthening of cooperation in various strategic sectors, including clean energy, the digital economy, infrastructure, transportation, education, and healthcare," Jermey stated in London on Monday.

He further said the partnership also fosters the two countries' commitment to working together to overcome non-tariff barriers, support exporters, and promote greater two-way investment.
During the visit, Minister Airlangga accompanied President Prabowo along with several other state officials, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, Forestry Minister, Raja Juli Antoni, and Cabinet Secretary, Teddy Indra Wijaya.
President Prabowo is known to have arrived in London on Sunday evening, 18 January 2026, after departing from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Sunday afternoon. During his time in London, President Prabowo is scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III.
Dominic Jermey stated the meeting between President Prabowo and PM Keir Starmer will also result in a broader strategic partnership agreement. The cooperation covers the fields of defense and security, economic growth, anticipating the impact of climate change, energy, and the environment.
