Indonesian Amputee Football Team Gains Key Lessons at ICC Tokyo 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Amputee Football Team concluded its participation at the 2026 Amputee Football International Challenge Cup (ICC) in Tokyo on Sunday, January 18, 2026, using the three-day tournament as a learning platform to evaluate stamina, tactics, and competitiveness despite falling short of victories.

“The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo appreciates the hard work demonstrated by the Indonesian National Amputee Football Team,” the Embassy's Coordinator for Social and Cultural Information, Muhammad Al Aula, said in an official statement released on Sunday, January 18, as quoted by

Antara.

Al Aula made the remarks after attending the match in person, visiting the team’s dressing room, and offering encouragement to the players. He also highlighted the enthusiastic support from Indonesian spectators living in Japan, saying their presence in the stands reflected respect for the players’ struggle on the field.

Although the Indonesian team did not secure a victory, Al Aula said the commitment shown by both players and officials proved that maximum effort had been given throughout the tournament. He expressed hope that the team would achieve better results in future competitions.

Head coach of the Indonesian National Amputee Football Team, Syahrul Ase, expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo. He noted that the tactical and strategic superiority of the opposing teams would serve as an important evaluation point moving forward.

“The players stamina needs to be improved. Over these three days of competition, we gained valuable experience that will become part of our evaluation, especially for domestic preparations and future international tournaments,” Syahrul said.

He added that the team learned many aspects from the tactics and strategies of the three opponents, including attacking and defensive approaches, passing patterns, and quick decision-making on the pitch.

Defender Aziz Firmansyah said the three matches at the 2026 ICC significant lessons for the team. “We fought hard, but the results were not what we hoped for. Honestly, we gained a lot of experience over three days competing against Japan, Poland, and Spain,” he said.

He added that he would strive to perform better in the future and hopes the national team can continue to develop and participate in more international events.

The 2026 ICC featured four countries: Indonesia, Japan, Poland, and Spain. Indonesia lost 0-3 to host Japan in their opening match, followed by a 2-9 defeat against Poland on the second day.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Spain lost 1-3 to Poland on the opening day, while host Japan was defeated 1-3 by Spain. Japan also suffered a 0-3 loss to Poland on the final day of the competition. ***
