RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian top women’s tennis players Janice Tjen and Aldila Sutjiadi are set to represent the nation at the Grand Slam Australian Open 2026 in Melbourne, running from January 18 to February 1. Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir has voiced his support, urging both athletes to deliver their best performances on the international stage.
“We extend our full support and prayers for Janice and Aldila to excel at the Australian Open 2026,” Minister Erick wrote on his social media account, as quoted by
Antara.Janice will compete in both the women’s singles and doubles events. In singles, she begins her campaign in the round of 128, while in doubles she will partner with Poland’s Katarzyna Piter. The duo recently clinched the title at the Hobart International, boosting confidence ahead of Melbourne.
Aldila, currently ranked No. 51 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) doubles standings, will team up with host player Guiliana Olmos in the women’s doubles draw.
Both Janice and Aldila have been instrumental in elevating Indonesia’s presence in global tennis. Janice enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2025, making her Grand Slam and WTA Tour debut while capturing titles at the WTA 250 Chennai Open and WTA 250 Hobart International.
She became the first Indonesian player since 2004 to reach a Grand Slam main draw and added multiple International Tennis Federation (ITF) titles along with honors such as ITF Player of the Month. Her latest achievement came at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, where she secured two gold medals, one in the women’s team event and another in doubles alongside Aldila.
Aldila, meanwhile, has built an impressive résumé over the years. The Jakarta-born player owns five WTA doubles titles, including the historic Copa Colsanitas 2022, Indonesia’s first WTA crown since 2003.
She reached the semifinals of Wimbledon 2023 and the US Open 2024 in mixed doubles, and has consistently excelled at regional competitions, winning gold at the 2018 Asian Games in mixed doubles with Christopher Rungkat and multiple SEA Games golds (2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025).
With their track records and growing momentum, Janice and Aldila enter the Australian Open as Indonesia’s brightest hopes to shine on one of tennis’s biggest stages. ***
