RRI.CO.ID, Subulussalam: Sikelang, a natural tourist destination located in Penanggalan Subdistrict in Subulussalam City, Aceh, has become a popular spot for locals and travelers looking to escape the stresses of the week.
Located only about 10 minutes from the city center, Sikelang boasts natural beauty galore. Visitors can enjoy the clear flow of the Lae Kombih River, an Instagram-worthy suspension bridge, a swimming pool, a children's playground, and several huts selling food and drinks.
On Sunday, January 18, 2026, hundreds of visitors crowded the area. Many families chose to sit and relax by the river while enjoying food and drinks. Others were busy taking photos on the suspension bridge and swimming in the waterfall across from it.
Sikelang is also a popular whitewater rafting destination for those seeking a thrill. It's no wonder this destination is considered one of the best places to experience the natural beauty of "Bumi Sada Kata."
Dayat, a visitor from Aceh Singkil, said he came with his family out of curiosity about the bridge and the cool water.
"The atmosphere is truly beautiful. We took some photos on the bridge. The view is amazing because it overlooks the river and forest directly. The water is also very refreshing, perfect for unwinding with your spouse and kids before going back to work tomorrow. However, children need to be closely monitored because the river current is quite strong," Dayat said.
Another visitor, Uswah, a local student, said that Sikelang is the most economical choice for a short getaway.
"Free entry on weekdays, except for major holidays, and it's affordable even then. It's also clean here. There are now lots of huts and food stalls. We usually buy food and drinks from the hut owners," Uswah said.
Sikelang proves that anyone can enjoy natural beauty. If you don't have plans for next weekend, Sikelang is ready to welcome you with its gurgling waters and cool air. (Misni Parjiati/Bambang MBKA)
