Indonesia Government Advances Education Diplomacy in London

RRI.CO.ID, London – The Indonesia’s Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto visited London. During a strategic visit to the UK since Sunday, 18 January 2026, he said Indonesia strengthened its global education diplomacy.
The ministry’s visit highlights Indonesia’s commitment to international cooperation in higher education and research. The visit aligns with Indonesia’s broader policy to strengthen its international academic networks and elevate the role of higher education, science, and technology in national development.
The United Kingdom was chosen for its global academic leadership and long-standing partnerships with Indonesian institutions. According to the press release from the ministry, Minister Brian Yuliarto led a series of diplomatic engagements focused on enhancing collaboration between Indonesian and British academic communities.
All activities were hosted at the Indonesian Embassy in London and involved scholars, researchers, and Indonesia Education Scholarship students.
The Minister was accompanied by Director General for Research and Development, Fauzan Adziman and Special Staff for Industry and International Cooperation Oki Earlivan Sampurno. The delegation received a warm welcome from the Indonesian Embassy in London.
Minister Yuliarto conducted an intensive educational diplomacy mission. He met with representatives from the University of Cambridge to discuss joint research opportunities and sustainable institutional partnerships.
The discussions focused on advancing science and technology through academic exchanges and collaborative research projects between the two nations.
He also engaged with the Indonesian diaspora, including distinguished professors and researchers currently working in British academic institutions. This session explored initiatives like visiting professor programs and research schemes to bridge global knowledge with Indonesia's national education ecosystem.
The meeting highlighted the diaspora's vital role as a catalyst for innovation and international networking. The diplomatic mission concluded with a dialogue involving Indonesian scholarship recipients studying at various prestigious UK universities.
